Janet Lou Burton, 75, of Edinburgh, died at 12:51 p.m. Thursday. Feb. 20, 2014, at her home.

Janet was born March 11, 1938, in Edinburgh, the daughter of Samp and Mollie Mae Long Whittington. She married Bobby Ray Burton March 21, 1953. He preceded her in death Nov. 21, 2006.

Janet was a homemaker and a member of Edinburgh Grace Tabernacle. Her legacy consisted of starting her day with the word of God, sharing Jesus with others and spending time with her family.

Survivors include children, David Burton of Edinburgh, James L. Burton of Amarillo, Texas, Allen Ray (Becky) Burton of Franklin, Mary (David) Patterson of Franklin, Lisa (Gobel) Brockman of Edinburgh, Rhonda (Tim) Barrett of Edinburgh, Becky (David) Wilhelm of Edinburgh and the Rev. Rodney (Kim) Burton of Carthage, Ill.; sisters, Alice Smith of Edinburgh and Shirley Beechler of Franklin; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel, Bobby, Kenneth, Richard and Ora Whittington; brother, Raymond Burton; sisters, Betty Gross and Margaret Willey; a grandson, Mathew James Burton; and a great-granddaughter, Kellin Dawn Littlejohn.

The funeral will be at the First Assembly of God Church, 904 S. Holland Street, Edinburgh, with the Rev. Terry England officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.
