Don F. Isern, 89, of Troy, passed away 4:17 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born in New Bremen, Ohio on November 14, 1924 to the late Homer C. and Beata (Klanke) Isern. He was married to Miriam K. Mouch, and she preceded him in death on August 24, 2000. Don is survived by his son, Charles E. Isern of Miamisburg; his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Fred Huegel of Crofton, MD; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Margaret, Angela, and Catherine; and two great grandchildren, Ayden and Reid. Don was a member of First United Methodist Church in Troy. He was a graduate of New Bremen High School and Miami Jacobs Business College. As a Veteran of the United States Army he proudly served his country. He was a retired Sales Executive with the Cincinnati Financial Insurance Company. He was a member of the VFW Post in New Bremen, a 15 year volunteer at the National Museum of the US Air Force, Auglaize County Historical Society, and the Troy Country Club. He had a lifelong career in music playing the Trumpet and Saxophone. He formed the King Combo, the Don King Trio, the Mellow Tones and many others. He also performed in the U.S. Army Band. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Mayor Mike Beamish and Richard Shepherd officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Contributions may be given in his memory to The Troy Foundation; 216 W. Franklin St., Troy, Ohio 45373, to be used for the Summertime Concerts on the Square in Troy.
