She was the second wife of James Allen Hardy, Sr. Her sister Mary Jane Potter was his first wife. Myrtle married James eight months after her sister died. At the time she was 16 years old and James was 43. Myrtle and James had 6 children: Aaron Hardy Jul. 18, 1923; Carrie Nunn Hardy; James Allen Hardy, Jr. Jul. 13, 1928; Mary Emma Hardy; Iris Marie Hardy Feb. 22, 1933; Rachel Lucille Hardy. Myrtle and Mary Jane's parents were Needham Tyndall Potter and Eliza Ditney Baker Potter. Their grandparents were Daniel Potter, Jr. and Elizabeth Tyndall. Great-granddaughters of Daniel Potter, Sr. and Mary Waters.
