Neil graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School. Neil worked as a grocer for most of his working life, starting his career in Willmar, Minnesota, managing and working in Watertown, SD, Long Prairie, Little Falls, Wayzata, Fairmont, and Rochester. He took a short diversion from the food business to work for Pacific Studios serving their motion picture studio clients working in New York City and Los Angeles. He retired to Rochester, having complications from being struck by a car in NYC. A neighbor's dog was lonely during the working day. Neil started to walk the dog.
