Henry stood 6' in height, and reported his occupation as Farmer.
On 29 August 1864 Henry was inducted into the U.S. Navy for service during the Civil War. He served honorably until discharged on 24 October 1865. Henry served on board the USS Lancaster as a Landsman.
In 1872 he married Charlotte Killam. Together they had three children; Laura A. (Ames) Sweeney, Elizabeth A. (Ames) Slippern, and Gordon Ames. Charlotte was buried in Minnesota in 1910.
On 5 July 1928 Henry was admitted to the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil, Washington. Upon being admitted he was sent directly to the Home's hospital for permanent quarters there.
