Ted Dan Gardiner, 52, died March 1, 2010 at his home in Holladay, Utah.

He was born to Dan Sibbley Gardiner Jr. and Phyllis Ashton Gardiner on Feb 22, 1958 in Salt Lake City.

Ted lived in the Salt Lake Valley for most of his life. He attended the University of Utah and went on to lead several successful businesses.

In his 20's, Ted started a successful produce distribution business out of his garage. He later became CEO of his family's business, Dan's Foods Inc., and turned the company around during a time of economic strife. For more than a decade he led the company, which was started by his grandfather and built into a popular local supermarket chain by his father.

Under Ted's leadership, the grocery chain grew to include seven supermarkets throughout the state, employing more than 1,000 people.

Ted was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours exploring Utah's red-rock country with friends and family. he had a deep interest in Native American culture, history, and religion.

Survived by: father, Dan; daughter, Ashton; sons Dan(Mariah) and Dustin; wife, Sherine; sisters Carolee (Joel) Scoville, Elizabeth (John) Goodell, Danelle Adams and Marva Macey. Preceded in death by: mother, Phyllis; stepmother, Abbie.

Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Parleys 6th Ward, 2350 South 2100 East.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his name to the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.
