Mrs. Dave Van Haaften, nee Gertrude Klein, the daughter of Gerrit J. Klein and Mary Rozenberg, was born at Taintor, Iowa on September 15, 1897, and passed away on the afternoon of August 28, 1959, at the Mercy Hospital in Oksaloosa, Iowa, having reached the age of 61 years and 11 months.
On February 4, 1920, she was united in marriage with Dave Van Haaften at Otley. During their married life they farmed near Monroe until six years ago when they moved to Pella to reside at 611 Columbus St. Born to this union were two children, Myrna Jean, now Mrs. Clarence Meyers of Monroe, and Marvin Dale, who passed away in infancy.
Profession of her faith was made in the Otley Reformed Church, where she continued to be a member even after her marriage and until moving to Pella when they became members of the Third Reformed Church.
Surviving beside her husband and daughter are three grandchildren: Debbie, Craig and Vicki Meyers; her mother, Mrs. G. J. Klein of Pella; two sisters, Dora, Mrs. John Willemsen of Pella, and Margaret, Mrs. John P. Vanden Berg of Otley, and two brothers, Jake and Ben Klein of Pella.
Preceding her in death was one infant son, Marvin Dale; her father, G. J. Klein; two brothers, Henry and John, and one sister, Jennie.
Rev. Wilbur Ringnalda conducted services for Mrs. Van Haaften on Monday, August 31. Family prayer services were at the chapel of the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home preceding the 10 a.m. services at the Third Reformed Church.
Mrs. Ralph De Cook accompanied Mrs. Arnold De Bruin and Mrs. Carl Vogelaar as they sang two numbers, “Does Jesus Care?” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Casket bearers were Messrs. Wilbur Ramer, Henry G. Willemsen, Duane M. Van Haaften, Dean W. Van Haaften, Kenneth W. Vanden Berg, and Rev. Martin Vanden Berg. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery, Pella.
