William received his education at the Sully Christian School, graduating from eighth grade.
Prior to his marriage William worked as a hired man in Reasnor, Iowa, and later for his uncle in the trucking business. After marriage he farmed for fifteen years and then worked for Pella Corporation for twenty-two years. After retirement he worked at Renaud Garden Center in Pella. He also did yard work for various people in the area.
On January 19, 1944, William was united in marriage with Jennie Henrietta Klein at the home of her parents in Pella. To this union a daughter, Mary Jane, was born.
He was a current member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. He distributed Back to God Hour Today brochures for thirty-seven years. He was a former member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church, the Pella Protestant Reformed Church, and the Pella First Christian Reformed Church where he served on the Evangelism Committee.
William enjoyed walking, attending baseball games, nature, feeding the birds, taking care of flowers, and going downtown to the Thursday night band concerts. He was always happy and always smiling.
William is survived by his daughter and her husband, Mary J. and Marvin Meinders of Pella; three grandchildren: Ron W. and Anabelle Meinders, Steve (Wonder) Meinders, and Ruth and Jim De Bruin; seven great-grandchildren: William, Roseane, and Aaron Meinders and Sharla, Zach, Dan, and Aly De Bruin; his brother: John Vos of Sacramento, California; three sisters: Margaret Mance of Sacramento, California, Clazina Dinges of Casper, Wyoming, and Cornelia Hoy of Adel, Iowa; his in-laws from his wife’s family: Arie and Nellie Klein of Pella, Iowa, and Beatrice Klein of Newburgh, Indiana.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jennie in 1993; a brother and sister who died in infancy; his brothers-in-law: Stephen Mance, Harry Dinges, Richard Hoy, Daniel Klein; and his sister-in-law: Effie Vos.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Pella Covenant Reformed Church. Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
