Chester was the son of Frederick C. and Julia Belle (Wilson) Craddock. He was the second of seven children born to Fred and Julia. He had five sisters (Edith Caroline, Aletha M., Melba J., Doris Ethel, and Maria Christine) and one brother (Dewey George).
He was married twice (widowed once, divorced once) prior to his marriage to Vesta Ileon (Stier) Neal on March 29, 1924, in Oakland, California. Vesta was also a widow and brought two children to their marriage, Alean B. (age 8) and Earl F. (age 4).
Chester and Vesta had two children, Chester Jr. and Clarice Carmen.
In 1930, they were living in Oakland. By 1944 the family had moved to Humboldt County and were living in Fortuna when Chester died.
