Arnold Meints, 95, of rural Cortland died at the Beatrice Community Hospital on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. He was born on July 29, 1919 at rural Pickrell and attended Townsend School District #63.

He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed at Christ Lutheran both of rural Pickrell.

He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 with the 773rd Tank Destroyer Battalion and had been awarded a Purple Heart.

He married Helen Blecha on October 7, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Pickrell and they lived and farmed in the Pickrell area. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell where he had served on the Church Council and had been the President and Secretary of Men's Brotherhood. He was also a member of the Pickrell State Bank Board, Pickrell Co-op Board, Spobow Post #253 of the American Legion of Cortland, Geddes-Thober Post #1077 Veteran's of Foreign Wars of Beatrice and had been a member and secretary of the Pickrell School Board.
He enjoyed playing cards and coaching baseball.

Survivors include two daughters, Eva Lampe and husband Dave of Beatrice and Paula Weigel and husband Dennis of Adair, IA; one son, David Meints of Pickrell; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Remmers of Beatrice; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Heye and Trientje Weber Meints; his wife Helen, who died on May 10, 2005; three brothers, Fred, Chris and Herman Meints; two sisters, Mamie Haecker and Grace Wallman.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown and Pastor Chuck Bentjen officiating.

Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery of rural Pickrell.

A family prayer service will be held at 9:15 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion of Cortland. A memorial has been established to Christ Lutheran Church with Mike and Gera Remmers in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice until 9:00 P.M. Friday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday. The family will meet and greet friends at Fox Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
