Norma attended Little River High School where she graduated as valedictorian in
1941. She played the snare drum in the
Galt Community Orchestra and the bell
lyre in the Little River High School Band.
She was active in 4-H and later in life
she was a 4-H leader for several years.
Norma majored in piano at Kansas
Wesleyan University of Salina. In May
1945, she graduated with a Bachelor of
Arts degree. Norma met her husband,
Donald, while attending college. They
were married March 9, 1946. They
had two children, Katherine S. (Balaun)
Lysell and Steven A. Balaun.
She is survived by her daughter
Katherine and son, Steven; four
grandchildren; sister, Hazel Ranney;
five great-grandchildren; and several
cousins and nieces. She is preceded
in death by her parents and husband,
Donald.
