GLOUCESTER POINT, Va. Samuel Ray Steele, 86, a longtime Gloucester Point, Va., resident and formerly of Washington County, Va., passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014, at his home. He was a native of Meadowview, Va., and was a son of the late Emmitt Steele and Edith Duncan Steele Luttrell. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea and also the Vietnam War. Mr. Steele was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of dedicated service to his country. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and boater. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Julie Christy Steele; and one brother. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Ella Young Steele; one daughter, Mary Margaret Morris and husband, Bill of Rocky Mount, Va.; and one sister, Judith Owens. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus, Va., with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 1:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
