Stephen Jackson Jones was the third of seven children born to John Jones and Lucinda Upton Jones. He was born in Tennessee in approximately 1841. The family lived in Overton County in 1840, and in Putnam County in 1850-60.
Stephen was a soldier in the Civil War. Like his older brother Thomas, Stephen contracted and died from typhoid fever during the war.
