Cedar Rapids Times Thursday December 16, 1875
FATAL ACCIDENT--Wednesday afternoon of last week a special train of the C.&NW road went up the D.&SW road to Anamosa and when but a short distance out of this city ran over and fatally injured Barney Dougherty a "section boss", who was at work on the track and who at the time was endeavoring to remove a hand car out of the way of this "wild" train. Dougherty was taken to his home in Marion and died in a few hours after the accident.

Barney Dougherty, who was run over by one of those official trains, has since died, leaving a wife and five children. For many years he has been a Section Boss on the D. S. W. R. R.
