Funeral services were today at the Altus First Baptist church for Mrs. M.W. Abernathy. She was a pioneer of Jackson county and died at 3 p.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital. Her home was at 400 E. Broadway.
Mrs. Abernathy was born June 25, 1869 in Virginia. She had been a resident of Altus County since 1890 and was the former Miss Nora James. She married M.W. Abernathy on Jan. 24, 1895.
Survivors:
Husband: M.W. Abernathy
Two Daughters: Mrs. Bess Darwin and Miss Flora Abernathy both of Altus
Three sons - Carl Abernathy of Altus, Lonnie Abernathy of Oklahoma City, and Clarence Abernathy of Sulphur
Eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren
Two Sisters: Mrs. J.M. Burke of Altus and Mrs. Tom Vaughn of Tipton
Rev. J. W. Read, pastor of the First Baptist Church will be in charge of the services. Interment will be in the city cemetery.
