A Fair Flower Transplanted

On last Tuesday, October 26 [penciled correction to Monday, October 25], 1915, just as the dawn was tinging the eastern sky with gold, the sun of the little life of Orville Elizabeth Potter, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Potter of this place, had set.

Only seven summers she had seen, yet what a joy she has been. Fragile by nature, with that placid winsomeness, which seemed far too pure for sinful earth, she was easily a "star," shining brightly in the home, the Sunday School and the town.

Religiously inclined, she loved bible stories best of all, and as she mothered her dollies or swept her play house. Such songs as "God Will Take Care of You," "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" and "Bring Them In" were her favorites, all of which were sung at the funeral by the Philatheas. The music which she made will ring on in the hearts of those who love her and echo down the shores of eternity.

She had convalesced from that dread disease, diphtheria, but kidney complications set up which baffled skill and science and love.

Electricity with its lightning speed brought messages of sympathy from far and near, automobiles and fast hurrying trains, brought broken hearted loved ones from over the state to the side of the bereaved family, while in the town neighbors and friends vied with each other in their works of love, but "His" grace alone was sufficient.

The beloved pastor of this baby, W. B. Holland, feelingly conducted the funeral services in the home. The pallbearers were Dr. H. F. Blailock, Messrs. Marvin Slaughter, E. W. Crouch, J. S. Halley and Clarence Nance of McGregor, and Will Sherrill of Temple.

The flowers were beautiful and in extravagant profusion. Noticeable among the many offerings was a pillow of pink and white rosebuds and carnations, on which was lettered these words in gold--"Our Sunbeam" from "The First Baptist Church." The Philathea class attended in a body, thus honoring their faithful teacher now so bereft.

Let's in our dreams picture her
A seraph fair and bright,
A shining harp within her hand,
On her brow a crown of light;
Then we'll bless the hand that took away
This treasure to the sky--
May all at last be guided there,
Where none shall ever die.
