SUGARCREEK -- Dale K. Richardson, 85, a lifelong resident of Sugarcreek, died peacefully Sunday, April 22, at 11 p.m. in Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek, surrounded by his family, following a long illness.Dale was born May 17, 1921, at Maple Grove Farm in Sugarcreek. He was the son of the late Joseph Ray and Virgilla (Mast) Richardson and like his father and grandfather before him, Dale was a farmer his whole life. As well as working the farm that his family had farmed since 1808, Dale owned Sugarcreek Golf Course, where along with his sons, he built it into an 18-hole course.Dale was the happiest working with his sons on the farm.Dale is survived by his wife, Gladys (Shumaker) Richardson, with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage on Jan. 1, 2007. He is also survived by his sons, Ron (Rita) Richardson and Ken Richardson, all of Sugarcreek; five grandchildren, Jessica (Gary) Richardson Curtis, Diane (Chris) Richardson Young, Jeremy Richardson, Eric Richardson, Ron Richardson, Jr. and six great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his sisters, Bernice (Wallace) Miller and Alice (Ransom) Andreas.He was a member of Barrs Mill Church of God and Ohio Farm Bureau.A funeral celebrating Dale's life will be held Wednesday April 25, at 11 a.m. in the Smith Funeral Home at Sugarcreek. The Rev. John Majeski will officiate and burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery at Sugarcreek.
