NEWPORT – Paul "Yogi" W. Hawthorne, 82, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2014. He was born February 28, 1932 in Upper Kent, New Brunswick, a son of Wilmont and Julia (Brown) Hawthorne.

Paul graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1949 and served in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. He was employed at H. P. Hood Company in Newport for 37 years until the plant closed. Paul also painted and wallpapered for Newport area residents. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, a tradition he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was very proud of his four children and 3 grandchildren, and grateful for his friend Ralph Underhill and all of the trout and fiddleheads he provided.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn (Paine) Hawthorne; 2 daughters, Lynn Malynowski and Kim Miller; 2 sons, Michael and Kelly Hawthorne; 3 grandchildren, Ben, Jacob and Michaela Hawthorne; 2 sisters, Mabel Norris and Pearl Williams; and a brother, Earl Hawthorne.

He was predeceased by a sister Fay Kennedy, and brothers, Donald and Roland Hawthorne.

Spring interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to the Newport Area Food Bank, 26 High Street, Newport, ME 04953. (Bangor Daily News 11/7/2014 and Crosby & Neal Funeral Home)
