Sadie Stewart Skaggs, 77. Mrs. Skaggs was born in Coalinga on February 6, 1920 and passed away in a local skilled nursing facility on Dec. 6, 1997. She came to Taft from Coalinga in 1923 and lived in Taft and on oil leases near Taft and Fellows. In 1939 her family moved to Elk Hills, the Navy oil lease near Taft, where her father worked for the Richfield Oil Company. During World War II Sadie worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach riveting on the B-17 (Flying Fortress). Mrs. Skaggs was the daughter of the late Tom and Effie Stewart and was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd W. Skaggs and brothers Russell, Allen, Wesley, and Quicksel Stewart and her sisters, Nadine Wilde and Rena Hansen. Mrs. Skaggs is survived by her two sons and their wives William Skaggs and Jack Skaggs; sisters Betty O'Brian, Edith Cooper, and Grace Fimple and her grandchildren.
