Son of Christian (DOB 1676) and Barbara Bergey Meyer (DOB 1676), he was married to Magdelena Veronica Bechtel (1705-1787) in 1727. He was a farmer and a Mennonite minister, having founded the Mennonite Church of Salford, Pennsylvania. He was the father of nine children: Jacob (1730-1778), Samuel (1734-1800), Christian (1728-1783), Anna (1736-1812), Maria (1738-1857), Fronica (1739-1740), Esther (1742-1780), Barbara (1744-1823)
