The Rev. Austin Schlaefer, O.F.M., Cap., 67, of Saginaw, Mich., and formerly of Campbellsport, died Friday, June 19, 1992, at Saginaw.

He was born May 26, 1925, in Campbellsport, a son of Mathias and Maria Berg Schlaefer.

He entered the Capuchin Order on Aug. 31, 1943, and was ordained on Sept. 5, 1951. He served various positions in Milwaukee, Detroit, Chicago, and Gary, Ind. He was presently the retreat promoter and preacher for Queen of Angels Retreat House in Saginaw.

Survivors include four sisters, Mary Schlaefer of Sussex, Sister Cecelia Schlaefer, C.S.A., of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Theresa Weber and her husband Robert of Sheboygan Falls and Rose Dreyer and her husband William of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, Bishop Salvator Schlaefer, O.F.M. Cap., of Bluefields, Nicaragua, and Anthony and his wife Marjorie of Campbellsport; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Seminary Chapel. His brother, Bishop Schlaefer, will officiate. Burial will be at the friary cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon Thursday to the hour of services at the chapel.

Huss Funeral Home, St. Cloud is handling arrangements.
