She married Walter Jackson Yates on July 14, 1919. He had two boys from a previous marriage, whom they raised along with the 10 children born to the two of them. Walter worked in the Benedict coal mines in St. Charles, (Lee County), Virginia, where their children were raised. After Walter's death, the family moved to Middlesboro, Kentucky, and most of them later migrated to the Dayton, Ohio area, where Cordie spent her remaining years.
Her residence was at 18 Lawn Street in Dayton, and she died at Kettering Hospital. She was survived by 8 daughters, one son, 2 stepsons, 22 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
