Karen K. Moore, age 66, of Alta, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at her residence of Alta.

Karen Kay (Melander) Moore was born in Alta, Iowa on July 26, 1948. She grew up in Alta and graduated in 1966 from Alta High School. She married Dennis Moore in 1969; they later divorced. Karen raised two daughters In Alta. She attended the University of Iowa, taking courses in Social Work. Some of her favorite memories were from an extended vacation in Europe. For many years, she worked at Melanders Appliance Store, the U.S. Postal Service, and later at Wal-Mart. Dedicated to Trinity Lutheran church, she was active in the Sunday school and also loved helping with local VFW events. An active bowler and golfer, she played golf for many years with her buddy Roland Chapman “Chappie”. In her younger years, she was a great seamstress, often making dresses for the weddings of family members. When spending time with family, Karen loved to play scrabble. Always known for her cooking, she would bake for church and school events, as well her family. She worked her way through an international cookbook, making things from scratch that most people buy today such as: pizza, tortillas, crepes Suzette, and baked Alaska. For her daughters’ birthdays, she made themed cakes from scratch such as Snoopy and Woodstock, as well as Pac Man and the ghosts; and for Easter, she’d make beautiful baskets with bird’s nests and other creations. Her family and friends will remember her most for her kindness to others, her generosity and her loving nature.
