Vija (Vitums) Troms Sparks, NV Vija was born in Riga, Latvia July 15, 1937 and passed away February 29, 2012, in her home surrounded by family and friends. She emigrated to America with her family in 1951 after many years in a displaced persons camp in Oldenburg, Germany. She was a graduate of Sexton High School and MSU and retired from MDOT after a long career as a chemist. She is survived by her children, Valdis Troms Jr, Lolita (Jim) Buckley, Anita (Greg) Kitchingman; brother, Peter (Brenda) Vitums; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Veronika, and sister, Rutina. Special thanks to grandson, Ryan Troms. Cremation has taken place and her cremains will be interred in the family plot at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lansing Latvian Lutheran Church-2417 Byrnes Rd.-Lansing, MI 48906.
