Andrew McLean II was born on July 29, 1802 near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland (likely Tollcross). His parents were Andrew McLean I and Agnes Gibson. He married Mary Douglass (parents unknown) of Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, Scotland before 1826 in Scotland. They immigrated to the United States in 1826 and settled in New York City. Andrew II established a cotton goods company in Manhattan in 1826 called "Andrew McLean Company" which began at 45 Charles Street. Later, his home and business (consisting of three city blocks) was located on 35th Street bewteen 7th and 8th Streets. He died there on January 26, 1852. The cause of death was Congestion of Lungs. The burial took place on the following day.

Note: His father (Andrew McLean I) and son (Andrew McLean III) are buried in the same plot. Andrew II's grandson, Andrew McLean IV (see his memorial page), is buried at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, New Jersey.
