Don married Nancy Krebs on Christmas day 1952 in Flagstaff, AZ. They were married for 20 years and were parents of five children. Although Don and Nancy were to later divorce and go on to both marry other people, they left this world within days of each other. Don died on a Friday night, Dec 16. Nancy died just five days later on December 21.
Don worked as a surveyor. He helped to mark many of the roads of the Verde Valley area as well as in other places such as Bisbee, Kingman, Tucson, etc.
Don died at age 55 of heart failure. Although he had gone through years of struggle with cancer (non-hodgkins lymphoma)earlier in his life, he was to beat it completely and lived many more years, enjoying a happy second marriage to Betty Jean (Crozier) Hough who he married in 1978.
He died peacefully in his sleep after spending the previous day up on the roof of their home working at replacing some torn shingles.
There is no grave as Don was cremated. His ashes were scattered at his birthplace, the Pendley homestead which is now Slide Rock State Park.
