Obituary Source: FamilySearch, 22 January 2018 by galaxyfaraway

James Howard was born December 22, 1805 in Barren County, Kentucky. James grew to maturity and married his first wife, Sarah Pursell on Nov. 11, 1830 in Madison County, Kentucky. There is very little known about Sarah Pursell but I assume she must've died and that they had no children together.

James then married Sarah Lee on December 25, 1840 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. James and Sarah Lee had thirteen children together. James was a farmer for the most part. He later became a cattle broker in 1863.

He died on May 15, 1894 in Alta Vista, Daviess County, Missouri and was buried in the Alta Vista Cemetery.

James Howard's second wife, Sarah Lee was buried in Oregon near some of her children. This explains why her name is on the headstone in the Alta Vista Cemetery with no death date on it.
