Ray Clark Gilbert

Ray Clark Gilbert, age 84, of Murfreesboro, TN died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009. A native of Dryden, VA, he was the son of the late Frank Clark and Thelma Cooney Gilbert.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nina Sprinkle Gilbert; sons, Clark Gilbert and his wife Kay of Denver, CO, and Richard Gilbert of Scottsdale, AZ; daughters, Ellen Casper and her husband Perry of Vancouver, WA, and Sarah Gilbert of Christiana, TN; and two brothers, Don Gilbert of Bristol, TN and Ben Gilbert of Haines City, FL. Mr. Gilbert is also survived by four grandchildren, Daniel and James Wolterman, Colin Gilbert, and Rachel Casper.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Marks United Methodist Church with Dr. Fred Hembree and Dr. Jim Clardy officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the European Theatre where he was a POW and received two Purple Hearts. He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church for 45 years where he served on numerous committees. Mr. Gilbert was a professional Geologist in the mining industry with New Jersey Zinc from 1952 to 1982 and the state of Tennessee from 1982 to 1992.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Family Council Fund at the Tennessee State Veterans Home. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel and Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at St. Marks United Methodist Church. Family and friends will service as pallbearers. Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
