George was the son of Anton Meiler and 2. Elisabeth Preuss, early settlers of Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. George was baptized at St Kastor Catholic Church, in Weiler, he was baptized 'Bernard' Meiler. Along with his parents and siblings, the family arrived at Port of New York on 24 December 1855, aboard the ship New York. The family settled in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. On 14 April 1864, George married Anna Maria "Emma" Freund, daughter of Johann Freund and Maria Katharina Wagner, also early settlers of Johnsburg, being the first couple to marry there on 6 May 1843, in the home of one of the founders of Johnsburg, Nicolas Frett, and wife Anna Klein Frett ~
