Thurston W. Allen -
Thurston W. Allen, an aged and highly respected citizen of Nictaux Falls, passed away October 19th, 1957, at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton, N.S., after a long period of failing health. Born at Spencer’s Island, Cumberland Co., 1869, son of the late Henry W. and (Margaret Sanford) Allen, his early life was spent in the New England and Southern States. Later, he spent several years in the Yukon, after which he returned to Saskatchewan, where he engaged in wheat farming. Returning to Nova Scotia in 1921, he settled in Torbrook, where he married Anna McGregor Cooney, who predeceased him by nineteen years. Surviving relatives include four brothers, George and Harris, Amherst; James in Alberta; Frank, St. John, N.B. An only sister, Mrs. Rose Allen, Parrsboro, N.S., passed away in July, 1957. Services were held in the Baptist Church, Torbrook, N.S., conducted by his pastor, Rev. Harold Hopper, with interment in the family plot, Torbrook Mines. Pallbearers were: F.A. Thompson, A.J. Sanford, Mack and Wilfred Uhlman, neighbors of the deceased.
