Hannah was an influential figure in Columbus history. In an era when women stayed at home and shunned publicity, Hannah worked tirelessly to ease the conditions of poor women and children. She founded the Hannah Neil Mission Home for the Friendless, which became a national organization that survives today. She also helped establish the Columbus Female Benevolent Society, among other charitable organizations. Her legacy can still be seen in a brick mansion on East Main Street, the home of the Ohio Arts Council.
