Dwight M. Poole, 81, of Clarkston, passed away at home on Monday, March 3, 2014. He was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Lewiston, to Fred and Loreta Poole.
After graduating from Clarkston High School in 1951, he attended Washington State College from 1951-53. He then joined the U.S. Army and was discharged in May of 1956.
He and Nancy L. Dailey were married Oct. 14, 1956, in Clarkston.
Dwight lived in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley all of his life, except for when he lived in Pullman while he was working for Holsum Baking Co. from 1957 to 1964. He moved to Clarkston in 1964 and continued working for Holsum Baking Co. from 1964 to 1973. In 1974, he and Rob Wilson opened Clarkston Heights Food City and retired in 2006.
He was a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarkston and recently became a member at the Congregational Presbyterian Church in Lewiston. He was also a member of the Pullman Jaycees from 1957 to 1964 and was the national director from 1963-64; the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce from 1974 to 1995 and was the president in 1990; the Clarkston School Board from 1970-74 and president in 1973; the Masonic Lodge in Clarkston; York Rite; Calam Shrine Temple; Oriental Band; the Clarkston Golf and Country Club; the Clarkston Lions Club and was president; and the Moose Lodge in Clarkston.
Dwight enjoyed spending time with his family at Clear Lake, fishing and pulling his grandkids on the tube. He and Nancy enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Mexico and Phoenix for the Mariners' spring training. He was an avid Cougar fan and also enjoyed golfing with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Loreta Poole; and a grandson, Michael Stephen Poole.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Nancy of Clarkston; his sons, Doug (Jane) Poole of Los Angeles, Stephen Poole of Clarkston and Jeffrey (Shauna) Poole of Sandpoint; his daughters, Lisa (Ron) Jacks of Clarkston and Cara (Scott) Thompson of Clarkston; his brothers, Charles (Saundra) Poole of Lewiston and Richard Poole of Clarkston; his grandchildren, Christopher and Emma Poole of Los Angeles, Heather (Pat) Hildebrandt of Issaquah, Wash., Stephanie and Brittany Poole of Clarkston, Robin Rosenau of Las Vegas, Anna Kate and Andrew Thompson of Clarkston and Maxfield Poole of Sandpoint; and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Life Center Foursquare Church in Clarkston. Joshua Bruns of the Congregational Presbyterian Church will officiate.
