Beatrice "Bea" Gaulding Cater

Beatrice “Bea” Gaulding Cater, 85, of Tifton died Friday, October 24, 2014, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Benjy Varnell and Rev. Johnny Cooper officiating. Eulogies will be given by Mayor Jamie Cater and Jeff Scott. Ms. Cater will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Officers of the Georgia State Patrol will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Ms. Cater was born on March 20, 1929 in Tifton and was the daughter of Luther Willard Gaulding, Sr. and Mary Beatrice Thurman Gaulding, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Luther Willard “Son” Gaulding, Jr. and his wife, Connie Gaulding; and a granddaughter, Kandice Michelle Calhoun. She was retired from the Georgia State Patrol, where she worked in the Driver’s License Division. Before working with the Georgia State Patrol, she worked at the Georgia Department of Transportation. She was a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Beacon Sunday school class and Club 55. She served on the Tifton-Tift County Library Board for approximately ten years. In years past, she loved to play golf and she was an excellent artist and her paintings hang in the homes of family and friends.

Ms. Cater is survived by one son, Mayor James G. “Jamie” Cater, Jr. (Vicky) of Tifton; one daughter, Vonnie Cater Scott of Tifton; one brother, Greg Gaulding (Jan) of Tifton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Burt Calhoun, Melissa Scott Carroll (Keith), Casey Cater (Kayla), Tracey Cater (Gentry), and Rob Scott (Krystal); seven great-grandchildren, Chance Carroll, Blakeleigh Cater, Bailey Calhoun, Trey Scott, Addison Scott, Peyton Carroll and Mayce-Ann Scott; and one niece, Mary Bea Aitkens (Larry).
