Jacob Frick, son of Paul and Marie Frick, was born at Frank, Russia on January 12, 1876 and died at McCook, Nebraska on January 26, 1954 at the age of 78 years.
Mr. Frick had been ill for two weeks and was a patient in the McCook hospital for 11 days preceding his death.
He was married to Kathrine Kissler on February 18, 1897 at Frank, Russia. They were the parents of 12 children, four of whom preceded their father in death.
The family came to America in 1905 and after living in Lincoln, Nebraska for a few months, they moved to a farm near Culbertson which remained the family home for 31 years. In 1936 Mr. Frick retired from farming, and he and his wife moved to the village of Culbertson. Mrs. Frick died on February 18, 1948.
On May 11, 1949 Mr. Frick was married to Mrs. Mary Klein.
The deceased was a charter member of the German Congregational church in Culbertson.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; five sons, George of Ogallala, Nebraska; Jake Jr. of McCook, Nebraska; Fred of Grand Island, Nebraska; Carl of Culbertson and David of Lincoln, Nebraska; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Jeffress of San Diego, California; Mrs. Carolyn Rippen of Culbertson; and Mrs. Esther McLeland of McCook; one sister, Mrs. Henry Amen of Billings, Montana; 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Culbertson German Congregational church on Thursday, January 28 with the Rev. Benjamin Rieger of Lincoln and Rev. Martin G. Braun, pastor of Zion Evangelical U.B. church officiating. A private service was conducted in the home. Interment was in the Culbertson cemetery under the direction of the Breland funeral chapel of McCook. The pallbearers, all grandsons of the deceased, were Robert, Wilbert, Richard, Donald, Ronald, and Jack Frick. During the church service, a quartet composed of John Fries, Jake Fries, Henry Brehm, and Carl Schafer sang "Are You Weary?" and "Beautiful Threads of Gold," accompanied by Mrs. Henry Brehm.
Relatives attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frick and son, Jimmy of Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. David Frick of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. George Frick and Mr. and Mrs. R. Armstrong of Ogallala; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brecht of Superior, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Frick of Sidney, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Reese of St. Francis, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sinner of Wauneta; and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Reese of Hayes Center.
