GILBERT NAVARRE

Born May 3, 1857
Died January 10, 1923

Gilbert was the son of Frank Xavier Navarre and Elizabeth (Loranger) Navarre. He was married at the time of his death. He died at Frenchtown Township, Monroe, Monroe County, Mi. from smallpox, which was the first case in Monroe, Michigan during the 1923 outbreak. Church burial records has his wife as Geneviva Davis, Gilbert's son's obituary lists his mother as Jessica Davis. Gilbert was married first to Susanne Guyor on May 28, 1889. Gilbert's first wife died the year they were married.

Gilbert married a second time to Jessie E. Davis on April 29, 1894 in Monroe, Monroe County, Michigan by Pastor Hally. Gilbert was thirty-five years old and Jessie was seventeen years old. Jessie was a resident of Frenchtown Township, and was born in Michigan. Her parents were Charles and Carrie (Stockford) Davis. Witnesses for this marriage were Edmund Navarre and Alice Duroscher. (MRMC, Vol 4, pg 242).

Aged 65 years, 8 months, 7 days

Services for Gilbert were held from St Mary's Catholic Church on January 11, 1923, under Nadeau & Weber Funeral Home. The funeral home has his service as private.

Gilbert's second wife "Jessie" may have moved to Louisiana as found in census. She may have married about two years after Gilbert's death to William Holden? (not exact on spelling), in Detroit, Michigan. There may have been a son from her second marriage. She has an obituary in Monroe for Jessie E. Navarre.

Gilbert lived with his brother-in-law and sister, Henry and Anna Navarre Born in 1910 at Frenchtown, Monroe County, Michigan. He was forty-eight years old at this time, a laborer working odd jobs. He stated he was divorced. The Borns are buried on the same lot with Henry. Found no markers for the Borns.

Note for section: east side (going toward M. Street) of big tree in middle part of 5, south of Sancrainte, close to the drive. No marker listed. Five graves not recorded with burials.
