Ramona Barbara (Sowell) Townsend, age 77, passed away on October 22, 2014 at her home in Corpus Christi.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecelia Sowell and Raymond Sowell, her brother, Clifford Sowell, and infant grandson, Walter Townsend.

Ramona was born August 8th, 1937 in San Antonio to the late Raymond & Cecelia Sowell. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church parochial schools and graduated from Providence High School in San Antonio, TX. She married in 1956 to Thomas Michael Townsend, Sr. and moved as a newlywed to Mission, TX in the Rio Grande Valley. There Ramona raised her 6 children and was involved in community work at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

She volunteered in the Altar Society, cleaning and ironing altar linens and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America even serving a term, as its Grand Regent. Ramona moved to Corpus Christi in 2000 where she continued to be active in her church. She is also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Clara Driscoll Chapter. Ramona was an avid collector of 1st edition books, crocheted baby blankets for all her grandchildren, along with many that she gave away. She was very talented with ceramics, her Halloween ghost sets, that she gave away, are some of her most artistic and whimsical pieces.

Graveside committal service will be at the San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery #3 in San Antonio, where she will be placed next to her mother.
