St. Louis traded him along with pitchers Ned Garver and Bill Black and outfielder Jim Delsing on August 14, 1952 to Detroit for outfielder Vic Wertz, first baseman-outfielder Don Lenhardt and pitchers Dick Littlefield and Marlin Stuart. His lifetime totals were 8-7 with a 5.70 earned run average. After his playing days, he scouted for the Yankees (1956 to 1958), the Baltimore Orioles (1965 to 1967), the Oakland Athletics (1968 to 1974) and the New York Mets (1975 until his death).
