The son of Irish-born Hugh William & Pennsylvania-born Sarah A. (Murphy) McBride, in 1860 he was a wheelwright living in Bloomfield, Perry County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Loysville, Perry County, August 8, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 13 as a private with Co. H, 133rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 25, 1863.
He married Margaret Dunkelberger but they apparently had no children. He died in Spring Township, Perry County, from "chronic gastritis."
