Catherine Bernice Salway Tate was born Nov. 23, 1922, to Alexander and Marian Salway in Long Prairie. She died peacefully Feb. 18, 2005, in Dallas, Ore. She and Lynn I. Tate were married April 21, 1951, at the Tillamook Catholic Church. They moved to Crescent City, Calif., in 1957 to raise their family. While there, Catherine worked for Safeway as a meat wrapper until retirement in 1978. Catherine loved making a beautiful home. Her hobbies were Nascar, watching baseball and coloring beautiful pictures. Catherine was preceded in death by Lynn in 1994. Surviving are her children, John Tate of Salem, Cathlynn Potts of Dallas, Ore., and Dennis Tate of Federal Way, Wash.; her grandchildren, Tatiana, Laney, Casey, Ben and James and one great-grandson. The family gathered to share memories Feb. 27. Final resting place is the Violet room at Riverview Abbey in Portland.
