Obituary published in Quaker Periodicals, 1828-1929

GEORGE. - Leah, wife of John George (deceased in 1852), departed this life 8 mo. 18, 1888, at the residence of her son-in-law, John S. Baker, near Cuba, Kan., in her 81st year, daughter of John and Rachel Bond of Winchester, Virginia, where she was born in 1807. Married in 1828, moved to Highland County, Ohio in 1829. Again removed to Hamilton County, Indiana, in 1851. In 1852 she was left a widow with nine children, who all survive her, and could truly say the promise of the Lord was verified, "A father to the fatherless, and a husband to the widow." She was a life member of Friends, a constant attender of meetings, till the last eight years deprived of sight. A lover of Bible, reading it through often. Her testimony was, "I'm ready, nothing in the way, all's clear." Though a great sufferer for last few years, she was patient under all, no murmuring, no complaining. Wilst we mourn the loss of a dear mother, our loss is her great and glorious gain. We mourn not as those that have no hope. Funeral services at Mill Creek meeting house, on 19th. Robert I. Hawks preached funeral sermon from Rev. vii. 17, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."
