KUNA — Alan Glen Newby, 62, of Kuna, our beloved husband, father, and friend, passed into eternal rest, Thursday, June 13, 1991, at his home after a long battle with leukemia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 17, at the Kuna Second Ward LDS Chapel. Bishop Randall E. Patterson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kuna Cemetery under the direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel.
Alan was born Sept. 3, 1928, at Kuna, a son of Glen and Ella Newby. He attended school in Kuna and graduated with the class of 1946. Alan married the love of his life, Verna Holliday on Aug. 10, 1946, at Kuna. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Alan and Verna operated the family farm just north of Kuna. In addition to farming, Alan worked for Amalgamated Sugar Company in Nampa. Burke Hudlesen Ford, and later Dan Wiebold Ford. In 1985, he went to work with his oldest son, Joseph, at Western Moving and Storage. In 1989, Alan bought Space Age Movers, where he worked with his youngest son, Richard.
In addition to his family, whom he loved very much, Alan also loved his horses and often set the standard for others to reach for. Five times his Appaloosa Stallion, Chicaro, was the world's leading race sire. Alan's horses always placed in the Performance Ring. He took a lot of pride in that he not only once, but twice had ridden the Chief Joseph Appaloosa Trail Ride. He met many friends from throughout the world as it took 26 years to complete.
Alan was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and served as a director for the club. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved working in the Gospel. He served as the Gospel Doctrine teacher for 10 years and was the High Priest Group leader, High Priest Group teacher, Finance Clerk and served in many other church callings.
Survivors include his wife, Verna; three sons, Joseph Glen and his wife, Helena of Boise, Calvin Earl and his wife, Joan of Mountain Home Air Force Base, and Richard Alan and his wife, Dawndee of Kuna; two daughters, Christine (Mrs. Rod) Warfield and Debra (Mrs. Steve) Taysom all of Kuna; 20 grandchildren; an aunt; and an uncle. He was preceded in death by a son, Alfred; his parents, Glen and Ella; and three brothers, Chester. Van, and Burns.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Chapel, and one hour prior to service time at the church.
