Sharon Elizabeth Butt Shumway, 75, of Blanding, UT, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2014 at the home of her son, Scott Shumway, in Globe, AZ.

Sharon was born to Susan Lyman and Harold Butt in Blanding, UT on May 15, 1939. She graduated from Blanding High School.

Sharon was married to Dean Carroll Shumway in 1957. They were married 12 years and had five children.

She received training to be an administrative assistant and worked in that field. She also worked as a nanny. But one of her favorite jobs was as a Head Start teacher in Blanding.

Sharon was very talented in many ways. She wrote beautiful poetry. She taught herself to play the piano and wrote musical pieces that both brought the spirit, but also could bring a smile.

She was a dancer in high school and continued to use that talent after high school in creating musical productions for youth groups.

She had a gift of humor and loved to laugh with her family and friends. Sharon loved reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed being politically involved. She volunteered her time in the fight against pornography and also as a member of the Davis County Library Board.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Sharon is survived by five children; Sharidean (Kevin) Flint, Suzanne (Don) Taylor, Shauna (Todd) Walker, Sheldon (Kristen) Shumway, Scott (Janice) Shumway, 22 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kermit and Curtis Blake; and other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on September 6 at the Blanding LDS Stake Center. Visitation will be held at the Blanding Stake Center at 2 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral at the Blanding City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by San Juan Mortuary.
