William Benjamin Bowman, of Wirtz, son of Henry and Sally (Peters) Bowman was born November 3, 1923 in Franklin County. He peacefully departed this life at sunrise on the morning of October 18, 2014 at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 15 days. He died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law surrounded by loving family. He accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church to which he remained faithful. He was preceded in death by Phebe (Jamison) Bowman, his wife of 70 years, who passed into eternity just seven weeks ago, a son, Kenneth, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.Surviving are one son, Delmar and Florence Bowman of Wirtz; two daughters, Elva and Randy Boone of Boones Mill, Leona and James Reed of Hillsboro, Wis.; daughter-in-law and husband, Leona (Bowman) Knaus of Knob Noster, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Jacob Montgomery and Virgil Jamison.Funeral Services will be conducted at Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Church, 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Oak Hill Church. The family request flowers be omitted and memorials may be made to Sunshine Valley School, 770 Angle Plantation Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
