Mr Hosmer died suddenly, Nov. 11, 1868, in Hinsdale, Mass. He was born Aug. 24, 1801, in Woodstock, Conn., a lineal descendant of James Hosmer, Concord, Mass., 1637. His parents, Charles and Lydia Hosmer, removed to St Johnsbury, Vt., where, during childhood, he acquired a common education, and when fifteen became a clerk in the store of the late Gov. Erastus Fairbanks.
At the age of 21, he went to Boston; was for several years clerk in the hardware business; for thirty years carried on the business in his own name, pursing a course which secured the entire confidence of the public in his integrity and fidelity.
In 1837, he took up residence in Cambridge; and, devoting the hours of morning and evening to labor and study, after a few years found much to use and enjoy in the garden without, and the library within, his dwelling...
