Word has been received here that a rural Fayette couple were found dead Sunday night in a Port Isabel, Texas motel room.

Mr. and Mrs. Royal Alpaugh died, according to Port Isabel authorities, from an apparent gas water heater explosion.

The bodies were found by a motel employee who said the room was filled with a black carbon substance. The remains of the water heater were also found.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Alpaugh were retired from LaChoy Products, Archbold, Ohio, and were on a vacation trip.

Mr. Alpaugh was 75 and his wife, 70.

The couple is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fred Blycamp of West Unity; by nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Both were members of the Christian Union Church at Fayette.

Mrs. Alpaugh (Gertrude) was born in Ohio, April 23, 1895 to Henry and Margaret Kaiser Weber.

Her survivors, all of Fayette, are two sisters, Mrs. Wayne Gallup and Mrs. Clifford Nicolen; and two brothers, Harmon and John Weber.

Services will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, Pioneer, Thursday afternoon at 2 with the Rev. Walter Linebrink officiating.

Burial will be in the Shiffler Cemetery near Pulaski, Ohio.

Friends may call after 7 this evening at the funeral home.
