Elizabeth “Liz” Ernst, 92, of Le Mars passed away Friday, October 17, 2012 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 3:00 p.m. Rosary followed by a 5:00 p.m. Scripture Service.

Pallbearers will be Tricia Ernst, Ken Ernst, Deanna Burmakow, Kevin Ernst, John Feller, Melissa Moir, Megan Feller, and Allison Feller. Honorary casket bearers will be Celena Feller, Marriah Feller, Lisa Dugdale, Brenda Pope, and Michael Schroeder.

Elizabeth Margaret Wanderscheid was born February 11, 1922 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota to Martin and Cecelia (Schultz) Wanderscheid. As a young girl the family moved to Le Mars, Iowa. Liz attended St. Joseph Catholic School. She was united in marriage to Elmer Ernst of March 25, 1940 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Elmer and Liz farmed and lived near Brunsville and Struble areas for many years. They retired and moved to Le Mars in 1980.

Liz was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church. Her family was the most important part of her life. She loved to spend time with her children and later in life cherished the time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed family camping and fishing trips. She also enjoyed playing bingo and cards with family and friends. She will be remembered as being an awesome cook and baker. Liz loved to visit and share her unique sense of humor with all. Liz also enjoyed the company of her dogs, Skippy and Charlie.

Survivors include her children, a son, Jim Ernst and his wife Marlene of Le Mars, a daughter, Ellen Weber and her husband Denny of Council Bluffs, and a daughter, Lori Feller and her husband Mike of Le Mars; 15 grandchildren: Tricia Ernst, Ken (Cindy) Ernst, Deanna Burmakow, Kevin (Angela) Ernst, family friend Mary Bauer, Lisa (Dennis) Dugdale, Brenda Pope, Michael Schroeder, Chris Feller, John (Brandy) Feller, Melissa (Dave) Moir, Jasmine Feller, Megan (Aaron Giese) Feller, Allie Feller, Celena Feller and Marriah Feller; 19 great grandchildren: Jaime (Matt) Weitl, Steve Schwartz, Scott (Kari) Schwartz, Kilie Dugdale, Ty Dugdale, Ryan Oestreich, Nicholas Oestreich, Brittani Plendl, Jackson Simms, Alison Ernst, Kaitlen Ernst, Riley Ernst, Connor Ernst, Damian Feller, Dorian Feller, Drew Moir, Nevaeh Moir, Gustav Moir, and Bentley Sassman; and a great great grandchild, Kaden Weitl. She is also survived by her siblings: Margaret Boetger of Kansas City, MO, Bernetta Ernst of Le Mars, Marty Wanderscheid of Le Mars, Jerry (Peggy) Wanderscheid of Rock Port, Texas, Rita Bay of Scottsdale, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Cecelia (Schultz) Wanderscheid; husband Elmer on December 29, 2005; two sisters: Mary Hodge and Jewel Buchloe; and three brothers: Dale, Harold, and Paul Wanderscheid.
