Die Herzoger lists his birth date as Mar 25, 1871 which matches what is on his headstone. It is doubtful he married and fathered his first child at 13 years old.

His actual birth was more likely 1865. He is listed as 11 yrs old on the SS Mosel passenger list that arrived in 1876. He is listed as 15 yrs old in the 1880 US census- see his father's bio. Finally he is listed 20 yrs old in the 1885 Kansas census after he had married Mary Dreiling, listed as 19 yrs old, and they had their first child Mariana, listed as 6 months old.

The source of the error in Die Herzoger in unclear as it likely that the data would have been derived from the parish church baptism, marriage, and death registers. Yet, Anton's death register entry lists his date of death as May 3, 1909 at the age of 44 years implying a birth year of 1865.

Mr. Anton F. Dreiling who had been ill for the last three weeks has succumbed to the treacherous malady, typhoid fever, and died on Monday noon. He leaves a wife and ten children and an aged father to mourn his death. His remains were laid to rest in the parish cemetery on Wednesday morning at nine o'clock.
