Paul Joseph Beltz, 84, of Dakota City, NE passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2014 at Unity Point Health St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA. Per his wishes, his body has been donated to the Anatomical Society of Nebraska.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Dakota City, NE with Rev. Karen Uden Tjarks and Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Homer American Legion Buckland Post 97. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the church.

Paul was born on September 8, 1930 in Winnebago, NE, the son of Jacob Haden and Edith P. (Hamilton) Beltz. He grew up in Winnebago and graduated from Winnebago High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force from August, 1949 to January, 1953 during the Korean Conflict, where he worked as Crew Chief for a C-47 cargo plane. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in teaching from Wayne State College. Paul married Lyn Nell Hypse on February 23, 1957 in Spencer, NE. To this union three children, Chris, Kim and Randy were born. He taught school in Iowa, Winnebago, NE, Southeast Community College in Milford, NE and then returned to teach at Winnebago and in Riverside. Just before retirement he was Dept. Head Instructor for auto and diesel mechanics at Western Iowa Tech. in Sioux City, retiring in 1995.

Paul was a member of the Homer American Legion Buckland Post 97. He enjoyed tinkering at the acreage, and loved talking about the Air Force. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Lyn Beltz; children, Chris (Denise) Beltz, Kimberly Beltz and Randy (Diane) Beltz; grandchildren, Adam Beltz, Aaron (Geri) Beltz, Tom (Amanda) Rhymer, Sarah (Zach) Taylor, Rachel Beltz and Samantha (Jesse) Sullins; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Leona) Beltz; sisters, Mary Ann Walker, Deloris Jensen, Linda (Rick) Lampman; sisters-in-law, Judy and Charlotte Beltz; and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Edith Beltz; brothers, Clarence, Earl and Jim Beltz; and brothers-in-law, Jim Walker and Bud Jensen.
