"Nelson E. (Nocky)Pollock, aged 30, died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ida Pollock, Tuesday morning about 7:30 as a result of acute alcoholism.

He had been as well as usual Monday. Monday about midnight he was brought home and assisted into the house by Frank Vest. Soon after his arrival he complained of being tired and asked his mother for something to quiet his nerves. Dr. D.C. Perry was called and states that when he first saw Nelson the patient showed a marked lack of muscular coordination. He gave a hypodermic, and Nelson was put to bed.

Getting up at about five o'clock to prepare breakfast, Mrs. Pollock heard a strange noise in passing Nelson's room and went to the bedside where she found him breathing heavily. She tried to arouse him but failed.

She phoned a hurry call to Dr. Tracy who arrived at the home at about 5:30. He states that Nelson was in a deep coma and could not be aroused. He resorted to a sterilized needle, and pricked the bottoms of his feet, hands, and face and could get no reaction. Respiration was seven breaths per minute. He asked for consultation and Dr. F.E. Hogan was called in. The two doctors gave a hypodermic and later realizing that Nelson was apparently dying informed the mother that the sisters should be notified.

Nelson died at 7:30. The doctors give the cause of death as acute alcoholism.

It was hard for the mother and sister to believe that Nelson was dead. His habit of overindulgence had produced deep stupors several times before and grief stricken family hoped that the doctors were wrong and prayed that he might be restored to them. The undertaker was not called for several hours-the heartbroken family were taking no chances on a medical error.

Fearing that Nelson might have gotten poisoned whiskey, Drs. Tracy and Coroner D.C. Perry, with the approval of Prosecutor Pettijohn requested the family to allow an autopsy to be performed. They wished to send some of the contents of the stomach to the state laboratories for analysis.

The family objected and Prosecutor Pettijohn and Coroner Perry decided that there was not sufficient evidence of poisoning to warrant legally forcing an autopsy over the wishes of the family. No inquest was held.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church this (Thursday) afternoon, conducted by Rev. G.H. Woestemeyer, assisted by T.C. Webster. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery."
