Service for Emily Jane McKinney Butler was held Monday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas A. Cheatham officiating. Butler, 85, died July 29, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born on Oct 7, 1925, in Amory, she was a daughter of Graydon Nicholas and Nancy Isabella Francis McKinney. She was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1943, and she attended Bellhaven College. She married William O'Neil "Honey" Butler on March 3, 1946. Moving with her huband's work, they lived in Ark, Illinois, Missouri, Florida & North Carolina before moving to Tupelo in 1995.
She worked as a courthouse clerk while in Arkansas before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Amory. Mrs. Butler loved to travel with her husband, who was her soulmate and best friend. Very personable and kind-hearted, she loved to read, work crossword puzzles, enjoyed flowers and gardening, and shopping for antiques.
She is survived by her brother, Billy McKinney (Judy) of Amory; sisters-in-law, Bobbye Lee Butler West (James E) and Peggy Meux, both of Aberdeen; and nephews David McCollum, Dan McKinney of Amory, Bob McKinney of Collierville and John McKinney of Amory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2003.
Pallbearers were Dan, Bob, and John McKinney & James E West. Honorary pallbearer was Billy McKinney.
Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.
